These are grueling times. I’m honest when I say that I currently feel angry, sad, restless and anxious. All of this and so much more. What immediately comes to my mind when I think about things to hold onto, is writing and the love of my life, Lisa. This post is about both.
In September 2021 Lisa participated the Tor des Géants, a 330 km nonstop mountain race with roughly 25.000 meters of elevation gain in the wonderful Aosta Valley in Italy. It was her biggest running project so far and I had the honor to support her on this epic 1-week adventure.
Despite both of us being very well prepared for this challenge, things turned out very differently than we had expected. It took us weeks after the race to reflect and digest what we had experienced. As part of my personal coping strategy, I started writing about my support job at Tor des Geants. I quickly left the path of "been there done that" and dug deeply into the emotional predicaments I had to deal with. In the end my writings were too long and too personal to just pour them out over the internet. So I pitched it to Like the Wind Mag and asked if they’d be willing to publish it in their one of a kind running magazine. Luckily they appreciated both, my emotional profoundness about being a supporter and the many wild running challenges of a 200 mile race, which Lisa had to face.
So here we are. LtW#31 is out now and my story "Would I lie to you?" is a part of it. Once again I feel honored and blessed to contribute to my favorite running magazine. Especially by sharing such a personal and (for me and hopefully for you, too) moving story. You can order your copy of Like the Wind #31 at their webshop and that’s exactly what you should do right now. Thank you so much.
