"Finding meaning in doing seemingly meaningless things"
This is how I described running lately. These words could also apply to the ZUT aka Zugspitz Ultratrail . Why would you travel to the same race over and over again, when there are literally hundreds of great races out there you have never run?
Maybe it is because the ZUT has produced some of the most wonderful stories in our sport. Not the big ones, but rather all the micro adventures, that are not worth less a bit. Even if I only look at our small Willpower bubble we have experienced so many great things around the Zugspitze. It’s been everybody’s A-, B- and C-race. We have seen first time ultras, including my own. There’s been gleaming winners and the ones who arrive at the finish line in the early morning. Unexpected comebacks and experienced maximum power performances. Friends running together and solitary bliss. Great suffering but even greater joy.
After 2 years of hiatus, the ZUT is finally back. I will be there on the sideline, cheering along and spreading high fives. If you race at ZUT let me know, and I’ll put you on my tracking list. I am very much looking forward to the news stories to be written around the Zugspitze this weekend. Let’s go!
