Really, really great read. "Knowing the reference does not mean carrying the responsibility. Hardcore has always had a simple, imperfect rule: everyone can become part of it, as long as they show up with respect and give something back." - That sentiment summarizes so many things frustrating to me about various running brands.

I feel similarly about the use of trails and outdoor spaces to present a 'cool runner' image, without pairing that with actual meaningful stewardship or connection to the ecosystems being exploited and profited off of. I never thought about how other communities like punk could also be being exploited in similar ways, but it feels very similar!

I feel you on this. The other thing that really rubs me the wrong way is all the people who don’t know better and end up feeling like this is what punk culture is all about. This might be the lamest thing in marketing I can recall. The polar opposite of punk.
