The Crew is me - The Crew is you - Yeah we're the Crew
Let me introduce you to my Western States Crew
This is a blog post I have been very much looking forward to to write. I am a very lucky person to experience most of my running adventures accompanied by a bunch of truly awesome people. That comes in particularly handy at Western States, because crewing and pacing can be absolutely decisive for the outcome of the race.
The Western States 100 has +/- 20 aid stations and 12 of them can be accessed by a runner’s crew to provide tailored food, help with minor injuries, cool down the heated body and organize changing clothes and gear. In addition runners are allowed to pick up a pacer at Forresthill (Mile 62) to escort them to the finish line.
A lot of side jobs to be given away at Western States. Lucky you, if you bring some friends. Well, that’s what I do. The absolute best, to be precise. The following people voluntarily committed to support me at Western States:
Lisa Mehl- My wife Lisa is going to be the crew captain. We both have a history of crewing and supporting each other at big running projects and I cannot think of anyone better for the job, than her. She will also be pacing me on the very last bit of the race.
Michi Knoche - Michi will be my main pacer for Western States. We’ve run hundreds of miles together, both chatting and in silence. I hardly know anyone who radiates peace and poise so vastly like him. When he’s not pacing, he’s supporting the rest of the crew wherever he can.
Marie Keck - Officially Marie is my medical support, but I truly hope that I won’t need to claim this service. More importantly Marie will also keep track of my food and liquid intake throughout the race and make sure I will eat and drink enough.
Henning & Christiane Lenertz- The spouses Lenertz are responsible for directions, transport and logistics. As a bonus they also get the honorable task to do the personal live coverage you are all eagerly waiting for.
I cannot think of any more reliable and lovely human beings for these jobs. Being eternally thankful already, I apologize for all the offensive things I will be saying and offer you MY crewing and pacing services whenever needed.
What could possibly go wrong? Everything. But it’s much more fun to deal with it, when you’re in such great company <3
