Rebirth
The phase I am in is all part of the entire and I feel more connected to running than I ever did.
Wanted to give you a small sign of life and Berlin Marathon race day seems to be a great hook. A big shoutout to all finishers. This is not the typical "everyone’s a winner" drivel. It comes from the heart. Finishing a marathon is a big thing. Always and for everyone. So feel yourself high-fived by me and get some good rest.
I raced Berlin 3 times. Two times this marathon opened a new chapter in my running life. One time it ended one. Which is basically the same, but feels immensely different. Reflecting on those three races reminded me, that my running life is actually a circle, not a straight line. It’s a never ending spiral of birth, life, death and rebirth. More about this concept very soon.
The last two weeks I got the feeling I have entered the phase of rebirth. It’s a long and slow process but it recently started to feel like a new beginning. Less hedged: I’m feeling athletic again. Interestingly it was a handful of track workouts that returned me this feeling. Unfortunately this pleasing boost of self-confidence will probably be over before it properly started, haha! It’s simply not the right time to go wild on 400m, 800m and 1000m intervals. But I’ll be patiently waiting for the Doom Loop to return to my training plan. I’ll be there.
Since I got this question a lot: No, I am not training for a particular race right now. Since Western States I haven’t committed to any new running goal and I still don’t feel it. Although running goals usually motivate me to train hard and consistent, I am finding more and more satisfaction in the small things this wonderful sport has to offer on the side. Trying out a new pair of shoes. Changing weather. Cheering for other runners. Strength & mobility workouts. Flipping through old running pictures without thrill or regret. Recognizing how my body and my mindset has changed since I started running. It’s all part of the entire and I feel more connected to running than I ever did.
