I run roads mostly in the Brooks Ghost because it's the "firmest" and most "direct" shoe in their line. I'll switch to something squishier once or twice a week because I believe the variety is good for the lower legs. Keep 'em guessing. Any luck finding an insole that works? That's another way to take out some of the squish. I like Superfeet blue (the thin ones).
As to, "It's just running," there's a lot of emotion in that statement. I catch myself tempering my real feelings about running because I don't want to sound like a lunatic. But at the end of the day, we bleed for this.
Thanks, Mike! Haven’t owned / run a brooks shoe in ages. as far as insoles are concerned I am a total rookie. never used any other than the ones delivered. Superfeet… sounds like a fit.
Regarding the shoes. I can recommend the Nnormal-Ones. I ran and still run the Tomir 2.0. I like the concept, feels comfortable, enough support for your body, not too bouncy, good for the trails and you can run in them a 1000k and just replace the sole.
Thanks, Jens! I got a Tomir here, not sure if it's 1.0 or 2.0. It's a great shoe but unfortunately it is a bit too narrow in the front. Otherwise it would be a great pick!
It was a great article and deserved the reads. It feels the world is unfortunately full of nihilists who can’t (and in fairness may not have been given the opportunity to) differentiate between community and aesthetic. Corporations hijacking culture and selling it back for pennies on the dollar is all they’ve ever know and can comprehend. It’s sad and I’m sad for them frankly.
I’ve settled on Topo Terraventures as my main trail shoe. Not quite minimal (they have a 3mm drop) but low stack, wide toe box, snug heel, not over-cushioned (especially if you remove the insole, as I do), great traction and protection, and they’re durable (I just retired a pair with over 1,000mi/1,600km on them)
I heard a lot of good things about Topo, especially for people who need a wider toebox. Havent tried them in a while but will give them another shot, thanks, Jeff!
I think we could take that idea of “music was never just background sound to me” and apply it to anything of significance in a life (as you’ve done here with running), and have a solid test for art/artist versus whatever the opposite is.
I was looking for something similar, plus I wanted to explore the offerings of smaller shoe brands because I’m not feeling the big brands at the moment. I ended up with the One More by 4t2, a young Dutch company, which I quite like

Appreciate you!

Thanks for this. Seems to be an ongoing story, though. I'll try to ignore it from this point on.

Nice one! Yes, I think music makes this whole concept very accessible....

Thanks for the hint! I konw 4T2 but I never wore one of their shoes. Will have a closer look....
